Happy Halloween! I can’t think of anything scarier than the weeks ahead for a number of reasons! But we must press forward and this week’s free post is going to share a few resources with you fellow filmmakers as I begin the final countdown to the launch of my own film in theaters and on platforms on November 15, 2024.

You might be following me or my film on social media and have noticed that we’re in a HEAVY in-person event schedule at the moment. Let me state that none of that is by accident when it came to the timing of the film’s release. In-person events are crucial to successfully launching anything and I want to do a future post about this.
I also want to do a future post about brand partnerships. It’s nuanced for sure but can be really beneficial when it comes to marketing and promotion.

Introducing Audio Eyes: Audio Description Specialists
One of the biggest features about my film is its accessibility to a historically underserved demographic: the disability community. Too often this community is the last demographic to be considered which is incredible to me, because this demographic is made up of over 44 MILLION Americans who wield a staggering half a TRILLION dollars annually in discretionary spending power.
That’s incredible.
I’m in the position of being able to say that all of my screenings, both in the theaters AND for people watching at home, are completely accessible via open captions for the Deaf and hard of hearing and audio descriptions for those who are blind or have low vision.
What are audio descriptions, you might be saying?
Well, I’m glad you asked because today I would like to introduce you to Audio Eyes, one of the only audio description companies run by an actual blind person, Mr. Rick Boggs.
Audio descriptions are descriptions of what is happening on the screen for people who are blind or have low vision. They listen to the movie via an app on their phones or special headsets provided by the theaters. And yes, blind people like movies just as much as non-blind people!
As a blind audio production specialist, Rick provides a unique insight into the practice of audio description. It was his personal mission to create an organization that included other talented, blind audio professionals. With Audio Eyes, he fulfilled that mission.
We worked with Rick for DARUMA and thanks to him and his team we can now bring our movie to an entirely new audience and I encourage all filmmakers to do the same with their films.

Resource Sharing the Producer’s Rate Sheet from Dear Producer:
I love Rebecca’s newsletter (now a Substack) as she often provides really great insight and tidbits into producing and the current state of the industry.
I was reviewing her newly updated Producer’s Rate Sheet and the part that jumped out the most to me was the section regarding services that are requested by filmmakers. I’m going to leave it here without comment and but also state that my consulting rates are going to remain the same for 2025 for the time being.
