Film distribution is the one step in the process where filmmakers tend to fall down the most but it’s also the MOST important part of the process.

I think many filmmakers struggle with distribution for a few reasons:

  1. The landscape for indie film distribution has changed significantly in the last few years

  2. Most filmmakers do not have a good business acumen

  3. Distribution is an incredibly murky, convoluted, and confusing process

And the above line items are NOT mutually exclusive of one another!

I've put together this handy checklist of twenty questions that details a list of questions you should ask your distributor BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. And if at all possible, have these conversations with your distribution team first, as involving an attorney is going to cost you!
