This week’s newsletter is going to dive into an incredibly important topic that’s going to have major ramifications for indie filmmakers: the death of the SVOD deal.

And since this will be my last paid post for 2024, I wanted to balance the negative with something positive, which is why I’m sharing the screenplays for some of the biggest films from 2024: Wicked, Heretic, and more.

The Screenplays for Wicked, Heretic and More

If you’ve followed my work for a while then you know that I advocate for learning as much about the film business as you can. And for me, especially since I’m primarily a writer, one of the ways I like to learn is to read the scripts for other films that are doing particularly well or have been well-received by critics.

I’m sharing links out to these screenplays below so you can enjoy them during the holiday break or bookmark them for reading at another time.

Read the screenplay for Wicked.

Read the screenplay for Heretic.

Read the screenplay for All We Imagine As Light.

Read the screenplay for Dune Part Two

Read the screenplay for Memoir of a Snail

Watch Independent Film, FOIL

This super low budget sci-fi indie screened on the festival circuit and was written and directed and stars Zach Green and Devin O’Rourke. I’m a huge proponent of making work for yourself and take my hat off to this filmmaking duo who executed a pretty nifty sci-fi feature. Read on!

ABOUT FOIL:

After opting out of their high school reunion to reconnect on a California desert camping trip, Rex and Dexter realize their intentions for the weekend are at odds. Tensions boil over when they meet an unusually friendly camper who claims to have found some wreckage from a UFO crash: a mysterious piece of shiny foil with a potential alien origin.
