Let's Talk About... Pitching Your Film To Distributors Via a Cold Email, or a Cold Query + A List of Domestic Distributors. BONUS FREEBIE: send me the links to your films to promote them here!
How to nail the pitch PLUS a list of domestic distributors AND a great interview about our making of DARUMA with Wrapbook. BONUS FREEBIE: send me the links to your films to promote them here!
This week’s paid subscriber newsletter dives into the topic of what to do and what NOT to do when cold pitching distributors and how to properly construct your pitch with an example on how to format it.
If you’re in the process of pitching your film, read on, because there’s some great nuggets in here as well as a link to a spreadsheet of distributors you can pitch your film to! As always, your mileage will vary so do your homework first and be sure that 1) the distributor is a fit for your film; 2) they are legit; 3) be wary of massive upfront fees and 4) they are accepting submissions.
Inclusion or exclusion from the list is not an endorsement or meant to be taken as commentary regarding their business practices and the list will be posted at the end of this newsletter.
Send Me Your Indie Film To Promote It Here
One thing I wanted to discuss before this week’s paid post is the notion of showing up and supporting other indie filmmakers. I read
’s Substack, HopeForFilm (hi Ted!!!) and he mentioned something this week about “if you make indie films, you have to support indie films.” And one of the best ways I can do that is via this email newsletter. So if you have a film you’d like to promote, send it to me here along with the link of where people can view it or your other promotional materials. I’ll do my best to promote one indie a week and share the trailers or whatever else you want to send me, but hopefully it can drum up support for your film and get some additional eyeballs on it. Some truly amazing people in the industry subscribe to this Substack (including YOU!) and I’d love to “show up” for other filmmakers in the way that I know how to best.
Click here to submit your film.
And please spread the word! If you know of another filmmaker who could benefit from this promotion here (no cost for this at all!) forward them this newsletter!
An Interview About The Making of DARUMA with Wrapbook
One more thing before we get into this week’s subscriber post, I wanted to share an interview that payroll processing company Wrapbook asked me to do. Wrapbook isn’t paying me to endorse their product but I really found them so easy to use and supportive during our filmmaking process that I agreed to speak with them about my experience.
The full interview is linked here so take a look!
Now let’s dig into the topic of pitching your film to distributors in this week’s subscriber post. And if you’re not subscribed yet, the contents of this post may change your mind so please consider being a paid subscriber for $5/month, less than the cost of a grande vanilla latte!
